Singer-songwriter Teena Marie dies at 54

CNN confirmed Teena Marie, an award-winning R&B singer-songwriter, was found dead Sunday at her California home, her manager said.

Born Mary Christine Brockert in Santa Monica, California, the 54-year-old artist famously paired with late funk legend Rick James and was nominated four times for a Grammy Award, according to her official website.
Marie was found dead by her daughter after apparently dying in her sleep, manager Mike Gardner said.
While no cause of death has been released, the singer's publicist Lynn Jeter said that Marie suffered a grand mal seizure -- a neurological event, marked by loss of consciousness and violent muscle contractions, according to the Mayo Clinic -- a month ago.
"Luckily, someone was there," Jeter said of that seizure. "The ambulance took her to the hospital, and on the way she had another seizure."
The publicist said that she had a "great" conversation on Saturday with Marie, who told her that she was excited about heading to Atlanta to perform this week -- in what would have been her first performance since the seizure."

Marie sang under various record labels, including Motown, Epic and Cash Money Classics, since bursting on the scene as a 19-year-old, according to her website. Her most recent album, Sapphire, features collaborations with Smokey Robinson, Kurupt and Gerald Albright.

Waka Flocka Flame's Home Raided (While Gucci Was Inside)

 

According to Rollinstone.com

It was a rough morning for hip-hop as two people were arrested and Gucci Mane was briefly detained during a raid on Waka Flocka Flame’s Georgia home, and DMX was sentenced to yet another year in prison.
According to a search warrant obtained by TMZ, police raided Waka Flocka's house seeking "marijuana, articles, pictures, and communications relating to gangs and gang paraphernalia." Waka wasn't home at the time, but police told TMZ that marijuana, prescription drugs and two firearms were found. Two men were arrested in the raid and charged with possession of less than an ounce of weed; Gucci Mane, who was also in the house at the time, was briefly detained and later released. He and Waka are both members of the 1017 Brick Squad collective.

Today Waka posted several messages about the incident on one of his Twitter accounts: "The folks just kick my door n good thing i left for court lol ... N they fuck my whole house up talking bout they got a tip ...... Hello i fucking rap .... Next time (po po) get a better tip ... If i dont stand for nothing i'll never b shit and thats real talk."

Waka Flocka was shot in what he described as a botched robbery in January, and was arrested for probation violation in March.

Feds indict ex Detroit Mayor while still locked up

Federal prosecutors just hit them with a weighty indictment detailing how they abused the public's trust by pocketing millions and living large -- jet-setting, driving luxury cars and visiting spas.

Taxpayers know a lot about what ex-Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his father, Bernard Kilpatrick, are accused of doing. But how these once politically powerful men qualified for court-appointed lawyers is a secret.
That's because the affidavits that federal defendants fill out to qualify for free attorneys are kept under seal, as are the legal bills their lawyers submit.
And the Kilpatricks are not alone.
Ex-Detroit Councilwoman Monica Conyers -- wife of U.S. Rep. John Conyers -- is in prison for taking bribes. She also qualified for a court-appointed lawyer. So did Umar Abdulmutallab -- charged with trying to blow up an airliner as it approached Detroit last Christmas -- who hails from a wealthy Nigerian family.
"Taxpayers should have a right to know what they're paying for," said Leslie Paige, spokeswoman for Citizens Against Government Waste.
Rest assured, the courts aren't handing out lawyers too freely, said Miriam Siefer, chief federal defender of the Eastern District of Michigan.
"The money is not being wasted," Siefer said. "There is a budgeting process that ensures that the money is not being wasted, that it's not just a blank check."

High-profile defendants get top-shelf lawyers paid by taxpayers

In the world of court-appointed attorneys, family connections and social status don't matter.
But what does matter isn't exactly clear, as the government is approving top-shelf lawyers for some high-profile federal defendants without disclosing how they qualified -- only that they did.
Ex-Detroit City Councilwoman Monica Conyers, ex-Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his father, Bernard Kilpatrick -- all figures in a federal public corruption scandal -- qualified for free lawyers. So did Umar Abdulmutallab, who is accused of trying to blow up a Detroit-bound plane last Christmas. He is the son of a wealthy Nigerian banker.

So here it is...NO MERCY, the most honest and intimate installment of my life story as promised. Hope y'all enjoy it and it lives up to the very high standards I've set for myself or anyone who's to be considered one of the best. I must admit it takes a lot to go through as much as I have and still keep the love in your heart and in your art. But at the end of the day, if that's what it takes to produce the music that keeps the world of hip-hop evolving on it's axis....Then even the lowest of the lows of my life was all worth it. Thanks again for your prayers, your time and attention. And remember....It does'nt matter how long it'll be before the next time you see me. What matters is that I'll be a better man before that time comes. The longer I sit, the smarter I get.

I'd like to give a very special thank you to all the fans who've been writing me and lifting my spirits everyday. I read all of them. Although I would never be able to write you all back...I'd like to list as many of you individually as i can and thank the others collectively. It's a relief to know that there still are people who see a man with a life and not just another headline in the news. Most of you sound very concerned and optimistic at the same time about my situation. Let me assure you all that I am definitely keeping my head up. I don't consider myself done by far. Also many of you are convinced as I am that God has a plan for me that he's preparing me for. How do you tell God Almighty that all you wanna do is LIVE LIFE ??? What if all you wanna do is be a father to your kids, a husband to your wife, and son to your mother while providing insightful motivation through music and lending a helping hand when possible to those who need it most. Well guys...That's the topic of discussion between me and the MOST HIGH at the moment. I'll keep you posted on how it turns out. Who knows maybe you can look forward to hearing the dialogue between us set to music on the next album...which I'll be announcing the official title to sooner than later. Lil Wayne & R&B Singer Brandy's Names Found On Bricks Of Heroin

Newark, New Jersy police officers recently pulled over an SUV and found 500 bricks of heroin worth an estimated $250 million stuffed in various stash compartments in the vehicle.
Many of the bricks were labeled with the name, Lil Wayne and some with Brandy.
Many drug dealers put names on their product as a means of branding or in order to describe potency.
According to one of the detectives involved in the bust,

"The driver had no driver's license. We at that point we decided to call for a narcotics dog. Conducted a sniff test and sure enough right away, on the exterior of the vehicle, he had a positive reaction.

This might pose a danger to the distributor himself, depending on the level he's on. Whether he's a mid level or lower level or he's actually the main guy, somebody's losing money right now."

Lil Wayne cannot do any drugs or liquor as part of the terms of his three-year probation for drug and gun possession in Arizona. We hope this doesn't count.

BREAKING NEWS!!! Ja Rule Gets 2 years in prison

Rapper Ja Rule is set to serve two years in prison stemming from a July 2007 gun bust, when both he and rapper Lil Wayne were arrested following a concert performance.

According to MTVNews.com, the plea deal was reached this morning (Dec. 13) in a Manhattan courtroom, during when the Murder Inc. rapper plead guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon, a class D felony in the second degree.

If the Queens native had gone to trial and been found guilty, he could have faced up to seven years in jail. Now, he'll likely serve 16 months in prison followed by a year and a half of probation, reports MTV.

Ja Rule is expected to be sentenced in February 2011.

"Minor setback for a major comeback," he tweeted after reaching the deal.

Last year, Lil Wayne reached a plea deal in his case as well, and began serving his one-year sentence March of this year. He completed his time last month and is currently in probabion for another incident that took place in Arizona.

Former Food Network chef Juan-Carlos Cruz was just sentenced to nine years in prison ... this after he pled no contest back in October for attempting to solicit men to murder his wife.

Cruz tried to pay three homeless men back in May to kill his wife. The men went to the police instead and Cruz was arrested.

As part of the plea agreement, an attempted murder charge was dropped.

As we first reported ... Cruz's wife, Jennifer Campbell, was suicidal over not being able to have a baby. But suicide is a mortal sin in Campbell's religion, so authorities believe Cruz was attempting to execute a murder/suicide out of mercy.

Ufc Fighter Kimbo Slice Dies From Post Fight Complications.

Former Street Fighter and Internet fighting phenom Kevin Ferguson, better known by his fighting alias Kimbo Slice reportedly died late Saturday evening from injuries suffered in his brutal UFC loss to NFL veteran Matt Mitrione.

     Apparently Kimbo Slice suffered a significant amount of brute truama to his head, resulting in contusions to the brain.  He was reportedly raced to a local hospital shortly after midnight eastern time, and pronounced dead upon arrival.  Kimbo Slice was 36 years old.

     Kimbo Slice made a name for himself in a series of brutal street fights which drew fame as they were circulated all over the internet.
